PRACTICE

HOW WE PRACTICE

Practices run on weeknights from late July until the season ends. In 2026, teams practiced Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 6:00–7:45 PM. Your coach confirms times and the field.

League rules allow up to 4 practices and 6 hours a week (Jr Mite: 3 practices and 3 hours).

Safety
SAFETY

HOW WE PROTECT YOUR PLAYER

These rules come from the WFFL, USA Football, and Utah law. We follow every one.

BEFORE THE SEASON

✓  Every coach passes a national background check.

✓  Head coaches are 21 or older. Assistants are 18 or older.

✓  Every team has a coach trained in CDC Heads Up or an equal course. All coaches take concussion training.

✓  Every player needs a current sports physical.

DURING THE SEASON

✓  The first 5 practice days are helmets only. No contact.

✓  Each player gets 225 minutes of conditioning before any contact.

✓  Full contact is limited to 2 days a week, with at least 2 helmet-only practices.

✓  Water breaks are part of every practice.

CONCUSSION PROTOCOL

WHEN IN DOUBT, SIT THEM OUT.

If a coach thinks a player might have a head injury, the player leaves practice or the game right away.

The player returns only after a trained medical provider gives written clearance. This is Utah law and WFFL policy.

Gear
GEAR & FORMS

GEAR UP THE RIGHT WAY

CHECKOUT

Each player checks out a helmet, shoulder pads, and a chin strap in July. A parent signs the Equipment Checkout Agreement.

RETURNS

Return all gear by the end-of-season date. Unreturned gear is charged to the card on file, and the player cannot register next season until it comes back.

WHAT TO BUY

Football cleats, a mouthguard, and a water bottle. Put your player's name on everything.

FORMS

Each family signs the WFFL Player Registration Agreement, the Parent Statement and Code of Conduct, and the gear checkout form.

Parent Pledge
PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT

THE GRIZZLY PARENT PLEDGE

Every family signs it. Here is what it means in plain words.

01

Cheer for every player, ours and theirs.

02

Respect coaches and officials, even when you disagree.

03

Put safety ahead of winning.

04

Keep it clean: no foul language or insults.

05

Keep games free of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

06

Remember that the game is for the kids.

07

Help out where you can.

08

Follow league rules.

FAQ
FAQ

QUESTIONS PARENTS ASK

Q. My child has never played. Is that OK?

Yes. Many of our players start with zero experience. Coaches teach every skill from the ground up, starting with stance and safe tackling form.

Q. Is tackle football safe for young kids?

Football has risk, and we work hard to lower it. Coaches are trained and background-checked, league rules limit contact, and any player with a possible head injury sits out until a medical provider gives written clearance.

Q. How are teams formed?

By grade, under WFFL rules. Players weigh in each July, and teams form after sign-ups close.

Q. What if my child is over the weight limit?

The player can still play as a marked "X" player. X players follow extra rules that keep everyone safe.

Q. How much time does it take?

From late July to October, plan on about three weeknight practices and one Saturday game each week.

Q. Where are the games?

Home games are at Favero Field at Logan High. Away games are at other WFFL programs, mostly in Cache Valley.

Q. Does my child need a physical?

Yes. Every player needs a current sports physical before the season starts.

Q. What does it cost?

In 2026, registration was $217. See the Join page for details. If cost is a problem, email us.

Q. Can I coach or volunteer?

Yes, please! Go to our Coach page and submit your info. Every coach completes USA Football training and a background check. We also need team helpers for game days.

Q. Where do I find schedules and scores?

On QuickScores at quickscores.com/wffl. Your coach also sends weekly updates.
